about

"Daddy's Combat Boots" is an original song dedicated to the veterans of our United States military forces and their families across the world. This is our way of saying "Thank You" for the sacrifices you make to protect our freedom.

The documentary that the song can be heard on ("Sold Out: Betrayal in Karbala") is a part of One Spark project #21827 about Kristie Vockell's friends and relatives who were impacted by events during their deployment in Iraq in 2007. (Kristie Vockell is the executive producer of the documentary.)

The documentary was also inspired by a book entitled "Warrior Police" by Lt. Colonel Gordon Cucullu. One of the co-writers of "Daddy's Combat Boots" (Greg Betkijian) is highlighted in both the book and the documentary. The other co-writer (Mike Klippel) comes from a military family of war veterans (his father served during the Vietnam War and his grandfather served during WWII) so the song draws on both his and Greg's experiences. Brittney Lawrence's mother also served in the military, so everyone who contributed to this song and documentary shared very personal ties to both projects.

Boom Boy Entertainment will allocate a portion of the proceeds of each single sale into a fund that we will be donating to a non-profit military charity in our hometown of Jacksonville, FL every Veteran's Day beginning in 2016.

lyrics

“Daddy's Combat Boots”

(Mama, where'd you hide Daddy's combat boots?)

Verse 1
----------
I lost my daddy when I was ten years old
He died for freedom on some foreign land
He taught me to tie both my shoes and aim straight when you shoot
And always play to win – and never to lose

Bridge
----------
Freedom isn’t free
Sometimes it chooses me
Freedom isn’t free
This is my destiny

Chorus
----------
Mama where’d you hide Daddy’s combat boots?
I need ‘em to play Soldier – like me and Daddy used to
Mama where’d you hide Daddy’s combat boots?
He said that I could use ‘em – when I’m ready to

Verse 2
----------
The day that I’m ready – he said I’d surely know
When I told you I was leaving – you told me not to go
One time in my life I know – when I had seen you cry
Was when you said “Please don’t go – I don’t want you to die!”

Bridge
----------
Freedom
Freedom
I raised my hand and I took the oath

Chorus x 3
----------
Mama where’d you hide Daddy’s combat boots?
I need ‘em to play Soldier – like me and Daddy used to
Mama where’d you hide Daddy’s combat boots?
He said that I could use ‘em – when I’m ready to

Outro
----------
Mama, where’d you hide Daddy’s combat boots?
He said that I could use ‘em

And now I’m ready to
